How I made this image

I was waiting still in a field where I often phtograph these deer, so they are used to me. This deer wandered across the other side of the field, and looked back at me. I used a 55-300 zoom lens. The image is cropped to get more detail of the animal, and the exposure has been increased slightly, because the overall image was correctly exposed but when I cropped it, the cropped image was under exposed.

Evaluation of the image

The juxtaposition of the manmade fence against the deer is interesting, contrasting the manmade world against the natural world. The image is composed of three sections, similar to the close up shot of the bee location 14 where it is split into three sections, with the subject in the middle and the foreground and background having contrasting light and dark tones. Part of the deers face is in shadow and part is in light, this technique is often used with portrait work, this adds depth to the shot.
