How I took this shot

I was using a portrait lense with a wide F stop which is usually used for portraits, so this image was shot as if it was a portrait. I got in close to the horses so they were in focus and the background was blurred.

Assessment of the image

In this image I especially like the way the background curves around. This effect happened because I was using a vintage film lens. The colours in this photograph are bright and alive. The image is composed so that your attention is drawn to the centre of the image. There are three curves at the foot of the picture which pull the picture together. There is a small curve under the brown horses legs, the larger curve under the black horses chin, and then a corresponding smaller curve again on the other side. These have the effect of drawing your eye to the top of the larger curve, which is where the two horses are rubbing heads.


this is the only image not using 55-300, this image was taken with 50mm f1.7, ff image image circle on 1.5x crop body equivilent f stop when multiplied f2.55
