3 BLIND MEN & AN Elephant
by the concept of duality and the story of the blind men and the elephant
The story of the blind men and the elephant is a metaphorical tale. It explores how people can see the same thing from a lot of different perspectives but they are all telling the truth.
Three blind men were taken to an elephant and asked to describe the creature. This creature is bony and thin said the first man, whilst the second man insisted it was soft, flat and floppy, the third man pronounced them both wrong, the creature is thick and very flexible he insisted. But all three men were telling the truth. The first man had been led to the tail of the elephant, the second to it's ear, and the third to the trunk.
The reason that you can lose touch with reality is that there is no reality at all, only relative perspectives and experiences. It is only a belief that everyone sees the world the same way, when obviously time is relative and experience is relative.
This enlightening metaphorical story of the blind men and the elephant, shows you the many different viewpoints on a topic.
So the elephant that can be so clearly seen by a sighted person is a
complete puzzle to the blind men. They are telling the truth from their point of view,
and their fellow blind men examining the exact same thing seem to be completely wrong.
We can easily see how this state of affairs could come about when we can see that very
solid three dimensional elephant. However when we then cons
ider non-dimensional things like perhaps religion, dualism or non-d
ualism, scientific or non-scientific, we can more easily imagine, after hearing the blind
men and the elephant story, how persons with seemingly opposite points of view, can both be.
describing the same phenomena from a different view point. This project will explore the different ways people see the world.
Though the images I have shown different ways of seeing the same thing and as three different things in gallery
Neutral being unedited and then negative and positive ways of seeing these scenes i have researched Vincent van Gogh and Edgar Degas, van
Gogh being the main one and this also links in with mental health as Vincent van Gogh made some of his best work after his mental breakdown
and self-admitting himself to a mental institution just before his suicide and this is terribly interesting
As there perspective changed in this way from being overly detailed and lacking in saturation which is what i showed in negative edits
Through to lacking in detail and high in saturation what I have shown though the positive edits,
But that is the interesting thing about using photography through painting and sketching there is always a
Distorted or unique perspective whereas in photography you can get a very neutral takes on what can be seen
